With so much information coming at you from every angle, it’s hard to know what is true and what isn’t. Fear not – our blog series Busting Cloth Diaper Myths will tackle these myths one by one so you know exactly what you are getting into.

Today’s Myth: “It’s too hard to use cloth overnight”

When it comes to having a newborn, we understand that it can throw your whole routine into disarray. It’s only natural to want to find the easiest possible way to do things to try to maintain some semblance of order in your hectic new lifestyle. We have already told you about how easy cloth diapering is, but still some parents shy away from using cloth because they think it is too hard to deal with overnight. The truth is, you don’t have to worry about rinsing poopy diapers in the middle of the night. Nor will you have to deal with a lack of absorbency or leaking. These are all myths; let me tell you why.

It’s all about the right diaper

In reality, cloth diapering overnight is no more difficult and not any different than using disposables — as long as you are using the right cloth diaper. There are some cloth diapers that are made specifically for night time use. They are designed to be extra absorbent and leak-proof with additional layers for the right amount of protection. Your baby can and will have the same stay-dry feel when you use a moisture wicking night-time diaper.

It doesn’t require much effort

When you have a baby, you will be tired, we get that. And when you are getting up in the middle of this night, you don’t want to exert more effort in anything than absolutely required. The good news is, you really don’t have to when you use cloth diapers at night.

Your baby will only poop during the night for the first little while.  You do not need to worry about rinsing the diaper right away.  Leave it until morning in a convenient place like on the back of the toilet and rinse it then.  The baby stains are easily removed by sunshine or Laundry Miracle.  In no time your baby will be sleeping through the night and they will save their ‘little package’ for you until then.

It can be even easier

If you are still concerned with night time poops, you can consider using a flushable diaper liner, which will mean no rinsing or worrying about staining. You simply lay the liner on top of the diaper next to baby’s skin and if it is soiled you flush it leaving your diaper relatively clean.

There is no reason to let the myths of cloth diapering scare you away. So don’t let everyone else’s opinions change your mind. Cloth diapers are eco-friendly, healthy, cost effective and easy. Check back often; we’ll continue to dispel more cloth diaper myths and validate your decision!
