Flats + Prefolds vs. Fitteds

Mother-ease prides ourselves on offering only the most convenient, leak-free diapering systems on the market.

For this reason, we do not offer flat or prefolded diapers. But let's talk about why we feel flat and prefolded diapers do not fit into that category.

Yes, it's true that flat and prefolded diapers are very economical, as you can order them online for just a few dollars, but they are not very convenient. Flat and prefolded diapers require the use of a pin or Snappi diaper fastener to fasten them around your baby, or a snug fitting waterproof cover to keep it all in place while your baby is wearing it. They do not have any elastics to contain the poop within the absorbent layer, which causes you to have to use more covers as they become soiled more easily. If you want to use your flat or prefolded diapers overnight, multiple layers are needed in order to achieve sufficient absorbency for your little one's overnight pees.

That all being said, flat and prefolded diapers are available both in sized and a one size fits all diaper that you can use from birth to potty training, they are very inexpensive and they are quick to dry.

A fitted diapering system is a much more convenient cloth diaper system in that the absorbent diaper is fully elasticized - keeping the poop contained inside the diaper - allowing you to use less waterproof covers throughout the day. (A waterproof diaper cover can be used 3-4 times before laundering as long as no poop gets on there.) The fitted diaper secures around your baby with the use of snaps, making diaper changes on wiggly toddlers a lot easier. Fitted diapers are also very absorbent, rarely needing any boosting and have been touted to be a fantastic option for night time and long car rides.

Fitted cloth diapers are offered in a One Size option fitting your baby from 8 to 35 lbs or our Sandy's diapers which are sized for a perfect fit in each weight range. So, you can choose which option fits best with your family and your budget.

If you want to go even one step further, check out our All in Two or All in One diapering systems for maximum convenience and a trendy, trim fit!

So, be sure to consider your options when choosing a suitable cloth diaper and determining what will work best for your family and your lifestyle.
