Many parents who choose to cloth diaper their child are faced with an internal debate when a road trip arises: "Should I use disposables to make this easier?" Some parents do give in and travel with disposables, thinking that it is so much more convenient. But when you consider the costs, environmental concerns and comfort, you'll realize that traveling with cloth isn't so bad - all it takes is a little planning.

How many diapers will you need?

Of course, this all depends on how long you will be away from home. Is it a day trip, or will you be staying overnight?

If you are just away from home for the day, pack one more diaper than you think you'll need, just in case. Worried about having to stop more often to change diapers on the way? Try a Wizard Duo Night Time insert. You can expect 12+ hours of leak-free driving with this insert, and with our Stay Dry fabric, your baby will feel comfortable and dry the whole time!

If you're staying overnight, plan to have enough diapers for two days and wash every day or every other day so you don't have to bring too many with you.

What will you do with dirty diapers?

If you are traveling, you must invest in a wet bag. A medium sized bag that holds 5-6 diapers is perfect for day trips as it will hold enough and fit in your diaper bag, whereas a large bag or diaper pail liner is best for overnight trips.

You may want to consider Flushable Bamboo Liners for travel because if your baby has a bowel movement, you can flush the liner without storing a poopy diaper in a wet bag for a day or more.

What about washing while you travel?

Ideally, you will be traveling somewhere with access to a washing machine. That way, you can bring sample-sized detergents to save space and be able to wash when needed. If you are traveling somewhere without laundry facilities, consider disposable inserts or take enough cloth diapers that you won't have to wash them.

When you are traveling, you want to enjoy your time away from home. And despite what you may hear, traveling with cloth is no harder than using disposables. Think of it this way, you are already so comfortable using cloth at home, why would it be any different on the road? Just plan ahead!
